Remote Channels and Innovation Director
Carlos Gomes, aged 30, is currently the Remote Channels and Innovation Director at ActivoBank, Portugal.
Having obtained his degree in Computer Science Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 2005, he started his career lecturing at the University during the last year of his Master’s degree, which he finished in 2007 with a score of 18 in 20.
Deciding not to follow the academic path, Carlos entered the financial industry in Millennium BCP, the biggest private Bank in Portugal. Enrolled in a 2 year fast track management program he worked on several departments for approximately 4 to 5 months each. He rotated between Retail Branches, Enterprise Branches, Investment Banking, IT Monitoring and finally moved to Poland to deliver IT solutions to the Marketing department of Millennium Bank.
By the end of the program he was chosen to integrate the Consulting Team set up to “reinvent banking in Portugal”, which led to the creation of ActivoBank in 2010, as part of group Millennium BCP. For almost two years he helped launch the new Bank by managing IT developments regarding Mobile, WebSite and Branch applications. By the end of 2011 Carlos was assigned to a new Consulting Team, aiming this time to rethink Retail Sales and Customer Segmentation on MillenniumBCP.
In 2012, Carlos returned to ActivoBank to lead a team responsible for creating “the bank of the future” and implementing that vision on the bank. This team’s main breakthroughs were the QR-Code based P2P transfers, a total revamp of Mobile APPs, a Paperless platform for digital account opening and several initiatives to bring the universities closer to the Bank.
Beginning 2015, Carlos took a broader role on ActivoBank having under his responsibility the Innovation Office team and also the Remote Channels team, being the latter the team that manages all Activo’s IT developments, interfaces with Mbcp development teams and provides technical support to the branches and remote relationship managers.
