Kristijan graduated from the Faculty of Economics at the University of Ljubljana in June 1997 and received the Bank of Slovenia Award and the Prešeren Award for his diploma thesis entitled IS-LM Model of the Slovenian Economy. In January 2003, he was awarded the title of Master of Economics at the same faculty by defending his master’s thesis on the internationalization of banking systems in Central and Eastern Europe with honor.
For most of his career, Kristijan was employed at Abanka, the third largest Slovenian bank, where he served as director of the risk management department from July 2006 to October 2015. Since March 2016, he has been employed by the Banking Association of Slovenia (ZBS) as Head of Economics of Banking Operations, covering risk management, internal audit, trade financing and corporate banking. Within the ZBS, he previously served as Chairman of the Risk Management Committee in the 2010-2016 period, and between 2012 and 2016 as a member of the editorial board of banking and finance magazine Bančni vestnik, in which he still regularly publishes articles with current topics on banking.
In the period 2013-2016 he served as a member of the Supervisory Board of factoring company Afaktor, and since July 2016 he has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the Public Fund for Entrepreneurship of the Republic of Slovenia. Since October 2016, he has also served as a member of the board of the family of pension funds managed by Modra zavarovalnica, and since the same year he has been a member of the committee for the selection of the best annual reports
In his spare time, Kristijan is involved in endurance sports (cycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, mountaineering), travel and photography.
